When and where is the Winter LAN 2014?

The Winter LAN is from January 3-5, at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. Go read the event details!

What should I bring to Atlanta LANFest Events?

It really depends on who you are, but here are some good guidelines:

  • Your computer! Atlanta LANFest is a BYOC (bring your own computer) event. You’ll also need to make sure you have your monitor, keyboard and mouse, and all of your cables. Please don’t leave them at home- we will not have spares for you.
  • Recovery media. You’ll likely want both recovery media for your computer and your games. Nobody wants to have their computer go down the first night and be, to use a technical term, SOL.
  • Up-to-date software. While this isn’t necessarily something you’ll physically bring, it is something you need to take care of before the event. As will all LAN events, internet is a commodity, and while we beleive we have one of the best networks around, we can’t guarantee connectivity the whole event. Please make sure your games, operating system, and anti-virus is up to date.
  • Money. You’ll need to eat, and while we have a pizza dinner on Saturday night, you'll likely need more then just than one meal to get you through the weekend. Food will be available for purchase from numerous restaurants/shops in the hotel, and in the local area.
  • Clean clothes. ‘Nuff said.
  • A good attitude! We cant state this enough. Were all coming out to have a good time and play some games. If there is any other reason you are planning to attend, you should reconsider now. We dont tolerate bad attitudes.

What Shouldn’t I bring to the LAN?

Well.. Since you had to ask:

  • Power strips. Leave them at home- we will not let you hook them up.
  • Switches/hubs/routers/whatevers- don't hook it up. It will light on fire, and we will laugh at you.
  • Drugs. Unless you’ve got a prescription for whatever it is you take, we don’t want it at our event. We dont enjoy kicking attendees out for bringing illegal substances to our event, but we have and will continue to do it. If you’re looking for that sort of an experience, look for a music festival somewhere.
  • A negative attitude. If you read the previous FAQ (which you should have), you’ll already understand this.
  • Sleeping bags and pillows. We do not allow people to sleep in the BYOC- it is agains the City of Atlanta fire code, and we can get in a lot of trouble if you do. The Sheraton has given us some fantastic rates on rooms, so really, this should be the path you chose.

Where can I sleep during the LAN?

You will not be allowed to sleep in the BYOC. We will wake you up and ask you to move somewhere else, and nobody wants that to happen. It is a violation of the City of Atlanta fire code, and one that could get us kicked out of the venue permanently. You are welcome to sleep in your cars, but we seriously ask they you consider booking a room at the Sheraton. They have gone out of their way to get us the event space and the excellent room rates, so we’d like to support them anyway we can. Not to mention- it is a far cry more comfortable than whatever you drove to the event in!

Do I need to purchase a ticket online prior to the event?

Well, yes and no. We do not require you pre-register for our events, but seats do sell quickly. Those of you who didn’t believe us had a rude awakening last Winter when we sold out and had to turn people away at the door. Registering online saves you time, money, and guarantees we will have a reserved seat available for you when you arrive. Oh- and all pre-purchase tickets are refundable up to the week of the event. And with the awesome new LANFest website, it's easier to book a ticket online than ever before.
